Dell Will Be the First to use Ubuntu Light in Netbooks

A special lightweight version of Ubuntu for netbooks will appear on the updates to Dell in the next month.

So this is the company most likely will become the first manufacturer who installed Ubuntu Light on their netbooks. We note that Dell currently sells more PCs with Ubuntu, than any other computer maker.

Optimized version of Ubuntu 10.10 can be downloaded in just 7 seconds, and specially designed for small screen interface allows quick access to frequently used functions and applications, including web browser, music player, multimedia programs, games, e-mail, chat.

Music is integrated with the service Ubuntu One Music Store proprietary Canonical, allows you to buy and download music, as well as broadcast it on the iPhone and Android.

Despite the fact that the official announcement Dell has not yet done, it is expected that, as in other similar cases, using Ubuntu instead of Windows 7, will reduce the price of the netbooks.
