Weddings: Why Modern Brides Prefer White Wedding Dresses

By Anne McKinney - In the modern history, white has become the official color of a woman's bridal dress. While some couples still wear traditional wedding dresses depending on their culture and religion, many of today's brides prefer to wear a white gown for their wedding whether it will take place in the church or a registry office.

People in various parts of Asia may still wear traditional clothing for their wedding, but this has been slowly changed by white wedding dresses. In the past, Japanese brides would often wear a kimono while Indian and Taiwanese brides would prefer a red dress for their weddings.

The Phenomenal White Wedding Dress

Nowadays, the designs of wedding dresses available in the market often come in white color, if not something close like cream, beige or peach. The color goes with many different styles and cuts-such as haltered, tubes and sleeveless. Some women who like a fairytale-like wedding would also prefer a ball gown on their special day. In a survey, 75 percent of women favored sleeveless and strapless designs. This is because such styles are easy to modify in case the gown does not fit the bride well.

The white gown was not yet a common attire centuries ago until it was popularized by Queen Victoria during her wedding with her cousin Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840. The wedding became a crucial point for white dresses to be worn during weddings. White gowns then have become prevalent over the West, and now many Singaporean women would love to wear such dress for their weddings as well.

Where To Purchase Your Wedding Dress

No matter what color or style you'd want for your wedding dress, such as a white knee-length dress with long train popularized by Coco Chanel in the 1920's, it should reflect your real personality. There are plenty of online dress shops around Singapore where you can get or rent your dress. A reliable shop where you can acquire your wedding gown should offer a variety of designs and free alterations for your size.

A more elegant dress may be proper for a religious wedding ceremony, while a simpler wedding dress can be worn if the couple will wed in a registry office. ROM dress rental Singapore shops offer flexibility for brides to choose between gowns fit for ROM or church wedding.
