The Role Of Your Hired Divorce Attorney

By John A. Patti - You may not have ever expected to watch your own marriage come to end, but when in this situation, you must do everything possible to protect yourself and any children that came from the marriage. The fact is that a lot of divorcing couples end up in a full-fledged battle in the courtroom. To make sure that you are protected properly, you will need to make sure that you have an experienced divorce attorney on your side.

The role of a divorce attorney is to simply make sure that your legal rights are not stepped on. Your lawyer will be your representation in the courtroom. While you may be asked to speak on your behalf, in many instances, you would not have to get on the stand and it would be your lawyer that speaks for you.

For them to complete their role as your lawyer, it is crucial that you are truthful about your own situation. Not only will you need to provide them with all of the information regarding all parties affected by the divorce, you will need to be honest about the relationship you had with your spouse and what may have caused the current situation you are in. Surprises in the courtroom will not allow your lawyer to represent you as well as they would like.

The one thing you must be aware of is that your lawyer?s main responsibility is your case and not your emotions. This is going to be emotional for you, but the attorney is not your therapist. While your attorney will certainly empathize with your situation, he or she will not be able to provide emotional counseling to you. Should you feel the need for help to deal with all of your emotions, you will need to seek counsel elsewhere.

The role of your divorce attorney is to make sure that you are treated fairly in your divorce. While it is an emotional time for you, it is imperative that you choose one that is experienced in this type of case and one that will make sure you are represented in the best light possible.
